Nittany Lions topple Hazleton, 2-1

HAZLETON, PA (September 27, 2012) - After a shaky start, the Penn State Berks men's soccer team bounced back to earn a 2-1 victory on the road against Penn State Hazleton in a non-conference contest on Thursday afternoon. (Boxscore)

Hazleton got on the board early with a goal in the fourth minute, but Berks responded with goals by Derek Dellalba and Justin Bass to pick up the win. Freshman keeper Trey Madara earned his first collegiate win in goal after recording five saves.

Dellalba evened the match at one-all after taking a pass from Avis McGill and chipping it over the the keeper's head. It was the third goal of the season for Dellalba and the first assist by McGill.

Bass, who notched the gamewinner against Immaculata University last week, kept pace with Dellalba for the team lead with his third goal of the season. In the 65th minute, the freshman midfielder drove home the decisive score on a perfectly delivered insert from Cory Garritano off of a corner kick.

The Nittany Lions will return to action with a trip to Bryn Athyn College on Tuesday, October 2 at 4 p.m.
