Men's soccer tallies season-high five goals in win over Bryn Athyn

BRYN ATHYN, PA (October 2, 2012) - The Penn State Berks men's soccer team won its second straight contest with its 5-2 road victory over Bryn Athyn College on Tuesday afternoon. (Boxscore)

The Nittany Lions (3-7-1) received a hat trick from
Derek Dellalba to raise their season total up to 15.

Berks dominated throughout the first half, outshooting the Lions (3-6) by a 11-3 margin but had nothing on the scoreboard until the 37th minute. Cory Garritano recorded the first of his two assist's with a cross to Dellalba in the box, who finished off the play.

Dellalba provided a two goal lead heading into the intermission when he found the back of the net at the 42:45 mark. He added another unassisted goal in the 83rd minute to raise his team lead in goals to six.

Collin McCormick and Tim Petrowsky each netted their first goals of the season. Garritano assisted on McCormick's score and Justin Bass had the assist for Petrowsky.

Goalkeeper John Murphy earned his second win of the season after recording five saves. Through 10 matches this season, the sophomore has compiled 74 saves.

Blake McCurdy scored Bryn Athyn's first goal at the 62:42 mark to cut the Nittany Lions lead to 3-1. McCurdy tallied a second score of the match, but it came with just three seconds remaining.

Berks finished the contest a 25-11 advantage in shots and held a 5-3 margin on corners.

The Nittany Lions will travel to New York for a pair of NEAC contests this weekend. They will Morrisville State College on Saturday (3 p.m.), followed by Cazenovia College on Sunday (3 p.m.).
