King's College uses second half surge to down Nittany Lions

READING, PA (September 19, 2012) - The Penn State Berks men's soccer team fell to King's College, 3-1, in a nonconference contest on Wednesday afternoon. (Boxscore)

The Nittany Lions, who earned a draw and a win in their last two contests, started out the match with an early 1-0 lead within the first five minutes of the match. Cory Garritano took a pass from Tim Petrowsky and after two dribbles unleashed a line drive into the top left corner of the cage.

Berks continued its strong play through most of the first half, but the Monarch's (4-2-1) were able to take momentum into halftime after a goal by Brian Alifano in the 43rd minute. Coming out of the intermission, King's took the lead on a Patrick Griggs goal off of a corner kick at 48:24. The final tally of the contest came off the foot of David Stroh in the 60th minute.

Sophomore goalkeeper John Murphy has kept the Nittany Lions in striking distance with his superb play in net. He matched his season-high of 12 saves, which he last recorded in the opener against Albright College.

The Nittany Lions will host SUNY Cobleskill on Saturday, September 22 at 3 p.m. and SUNYIT on Sunday, September 23 at 2 p.m.
