Nittany Lions win thriller over Immaculata University

READING, PA (September 17, 2012) - Justin Bass's header in the 47th minute was the winning margin in the Penn State Berks men's soccer teams 2-1 victory over Immaculata University on Monday afternoon. (Boxscore)

The Nittany Lions (1-3-1) were outshot 22-10 and had an 11-1 deficit in corner kicks, but timely offense and a number of acrobatic saves by John Murphy were the difference.

Andrew Fair lofted a perfect throw from the sideline and Bass used his height to his advantage to head the gamewinner past the keeper. It was the second goal of the season for the freshman midfielder.

Berks tied the match at one apiece after Collin McCormick connected with Michael Peguero for a goal at the 32:06 mark. Off of a free kick, McCormick placed the ball over the Mighty Mac defenders and right to feet of Peguero. Peguero defelected the ball past the keeper into the far corner to record his first goal of the season.

Immaculata struck first in the match with a score from Tyler Hembree. But Murphy made sure that was all that the Mighty Macs would get. The sophomore goalkeeper recorded 10 saves, marking the third time that he has reached double-digits. Murphy recorded seven of those saves after the Nittany Lions took the lead at 47:06.

Penn State Berks will host King's College in a nonconfrerence contest on Wednesday, September 19 at 4 p.m.
