Nittany Lions run win streak up to four

CHAMBERSBURG, PA (September 15, 2012) - The Penn State Berks women's soccer team ran its win streak to four and matched the best start in conference play after defeating Wilson College by a score of 10-0 on Saturday afternoon. (Boxscore)

The Nittany Lions are now 4-2 overall and 4-0 in the NEAC, which matches the 2009 squad with the best start in program history. The 2009 team finished the season with a school-best 14 wins and went 8-2 in the conference.

The 2012 team can challenge that record if they keep up the level of play they have shown in the early going. The offense is powered by Sara Conover, who recorded four goals against the Phoenix (0-5, 0-3 NEAC). Through five contests, the freshman forward already has 18 points off of eight goals and two assists.

Ellie McKinstry got the Nittany Lions on the board 72 seconds into the match with her first goal of the season. She tallied her second goal at the 5:20 mark and recorded an assist on Conover's goal at 18:33.

Meaghan Daly recorded her second goal of the season, while Jenna Fick, Chelsea Ray, and Jessica Markel each tallied their first goals of the season. Emma Babp had the assist on Markel's goal to cap off the scoring spree.

The strong defensive play of Ashley Pardoski, Melissa Bennett, Emily Rumpf, and Katie Warner limited the Wilson attack all day. Savannah Cramer recorded her second shutout of the season after making a save on the only shot that made its way to her. Cramer currently sports a 1.03 goals against average in six contests. Berks has outscored its opposition 19-2 during its four-match winning streak.

The Nittany Lions will host SUNY Cobleskill on Saturday, September 22 at 1 p.m. and will face SUNYIT on Sunday, September 23 at noon.
