Men's soccer, Lancaster Bible play to 2-2 draw

READING, PA (September 12, 2012) - The Penn State Berks men's soccer team and visiting Lancaster Bible College battled through 110 minutes of play before finishing in a 2-2 draw in Wednesday afternoon's North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest. (Boxscore)

The Nittany Lions earned their first point in the NEAC standing with the draw, as they move to 0-3-1 overall and 0-2-1 in the conference. Lancaster Bible now has an overall record of 0-2-2 and 0-1-2 in the NEAC.

Derek Dellalba put the Nittany Lions ahead 1-0 with an impressive goal in the 26th minute. He raced by two defenders just past midfield and shook his defender with fancy footwork before beating the keeper with a shot through the left side.

Berks went up 2-0 after Zachary Hoherchak registered the first goal of his collegiate career. After the Chargers failed to clear the ball out of the box, Hoherchak corralled the ball on the right side and beat the keeper at the near post.

Lancaster Bible cut the lead in half with when Sean Westerlund scored at the 41:33 mark of the first half. Westerlund capitalized on the Nittany Lions inability to clear the ball out of the box.

The final tally of the match came on a penalty kick by Dwight Shelly in the 61st minute. Berks goalkeeper John Murphy guessed right when he dove to his right, but the kick sailed past his outstretched arms and into the back corner.

Murphy finished the contest with eight saves, running his season total up to 34. He kept the match tied at 2-all with a beautiful diving save in the 95th minute.

The Nittany Lions will host Immaculata University in a non-conference contest on Monday, September 17 at 4 p.m.
