Mosser clutch in Nittany Lions comeback win

IMMACULATA, PA (September 11, 2012) - The Penn State Berks women's volleyball team battled back with wins in the fourth and fifth games to defeat Immaculata University, 3-2, in Tuesday evening's non-conference contest. (Boxscore)

The Nittany Lions (2-2) lost the opening game by a score of 25-19, but evened the match with a thrilling 25-23 win in the second. The Mighty Macs (0-5) took the third game by a score of 25-16, but Berks followed with wins of 25-17 and 15-12.

Kayla Mosser recorded the final two points for the Nittany Lions in their fourth and fifth game victories. She sent the Nittany Lions into a decisive fifth set with a kill and a service ace. In the match clinching win, Mosser put Berks at gamepoint with a kill before the Mighty Macs made things interesting with a three point run. With the score 14-12, Mosser closed out the win with her contest-best 13th kill of the evening.

Mosser also finished with three service aces, one solo block and one block assist. Caitlin Scroger recorded nine kills, followed by Courtney Lucarelli (8), and Rachel Sweeney (7). Abby Musselman notched a season-high 42 assists, 10 digs, and four service aces. Victoria Young had a team-high 17 digs.

Immaculata had 11 kills from Stephanie Johler and Andrea Okoro, while Allison Lang added nine. Johler and Lang combined for 10 of the teams 14 service aces. Jamie Rombach had 34 assists and 13 digs for the Mighty Macs.

The Nittany Lions will face Widener University and Bryn Mawr College on Friday, September 14 for the opening day of the Neumann Tournament. On Saturday, Berks will face Marymount University and St. Mary's College to wrap up the two day tournament.
