Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Nittany Lions split matches at Franklin & Marshall tournament

LANCASTER, PA (September 1, 2012) - The Penn State Berks women's volleyball team won its first match of the season by a score of 3-0 over Lancaster Bible College before falling, 3-0, to tournament host Franklin & Marshall College on Saturday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions finished off the tournament with a record 1-2, but the effort that they gave is much better than the record indicates. Berks hung tight in its loss to F&M, who finished second in the Centennial Conference regular-season last season, falling by set scores of 26-24, 25-23, 25-18.

In the opener, Berks got a glimpse of what to expect out of one the top NEAC opponents when they defeated the Chargers. The Nittany Lions won by scores of 25-23, 25-21, 25-21 in the non-conference tilt. Sophomore Kayla Mosser led the attack with 14 kills, while committing only two errors. Caitlin Scroger followed up her excellent debut with a nine kill effort. Victoria Young led the squad with 16 digs, followed by Courtney Lucarelli with 14 and Abby Musselman with 13. Musselman also recorded 26 assists.

Berks and Lancaster Bible will meet again on Thursday, September 20 in the conference season-opener at Beaver Community Center.

Lucarelli notched nine kills and eight digs against the Diplomats. Sarah Winton recorded a team-high three service aces and seven digs, while Young again tallied 16 digs. Musselman handed out 23 assists to run her season total to 89 after just three contests.

The Nittany Lions will enjoy a 10-day layoff before visiting Immaculata University on Tuesday, September 11 at 7 p.m.
