Women's soccer falls to Albright in season opener

READING, PA (August 31, 2012) - The Penn State Berks women's soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision to crosstown rival Albright College in the 2012 season opener on Friday afternoon. (Boxscore)

The Nittany Lions best scoring chance came in the 52nd minute when Jenna Fick dribbled past the keeper on the left side of the box and rolled the ball toward the back right corner. As the ball neared the goal line, Albright defender Alex Talbot swooped in and knocked it away to preserve the shutout.

Sophomore goalkeeper Savannah Cramer made five saves in net for the Nittany Lions, while Sarah Elmontacir registered one in her collegiate debut.

Meaghan Daly recorded two shots for Berks, while six others each took one. Overall, the Nittany Lions were outshot by a 14-8 margin and 10-3 in corners.

Emily Diaz had two goals for Albright, both of which were off of a corner kick. In the 28th minute, Kirstie Potteiger inserted a perfect chip and Diaz headed it into the back of the net. Early in the second half, Kim Harkins instert from the corner found Diaz's knee and then the back of the net. Kelly Marie Burian tallied the final goal with Rebecca Sartorio adding the assist.

The Nittany Lions will host King's College on Wednesday, September 5 at 4 p.m.
