Softball outlasts Gallaudet to win fourth straight

READING, PA (April 7, 2012) - After a quick 10-2 win in the opener, the Penn State Berks softball team rallied late to win 22-14 in the second game slugfest over Gallaudet University on Saturday afternoon at Hintz Athletic Field.

The Nittany Lions won their fourth straight game to improve to 7-17 overall and 7-3 in the NEAC South, while the Bison drop to 5-21 overall and 3-7 in the conference.

In the nightcap, Berks ended the game in the sixth due to the eight-run rule after scoring 11 runs. Stefany Dusman and Alyssa Stahly both hit two-run home runs during the scoring spree. Dusman finished the game 2-for-5 with three RBI and a run scored, while Stahly was 2-for-2 with two runs scored, two RBI and three walks.

Kelsey Halloran finished 3-for-5 with seven RBI and three runs scored and Ashley Heeman was 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored.

In the first game, Raychel Dearmitt picked up her first win of the season after allowing two unearned runs over five innings. At one point, seven straight outs were by strikeout as Dearmitt finished with a season-high 11 strikeouts.

Stahly started the day on fire as well, going 3-for-3 with five runs batted in. Marissa Ruggiero added two hits and scored two runs, while Kaylie Vrabelfinished with two hits and two RBI.

The Nittany Lions will host Swarthmore College on Tuesday, April 10 at 3 p.m.
