Softball swept by Abington

READING, PA (April 15, 2012) - The Penn State Berks softball team dropped a pair of North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Southern Division contests to Penn State Abington on Sunday afternoon at Hintz Athletic Field. The Nittany Lions fell 4-1 in the opener and saw their rally come up just short in a 12-10 game two loss.

The losses snapped a four-game winning streak and brought Berks' NEAC record to 9-5. Abington improves to 9-17 overall and 5-9 in the conference.

Kaylie Vrabel combined to go 4-for-8 with two runs scored, two runs batted in and three stolen bases. She did the majority of her damage in the second game with three hits, one of which was a triple.

Britany Nelson suffered the setback in the pitcher's circle in the first game. She threw 6.0 innings, surrendering six hits and four runs, while striking out three batters. Larissa Tenley recorded a strikeout and gave up a single in one inning of work. Devon Denker threw 2 1/3 innings of relief in the second game, allowing two unearned runs. She scattered four hits over that time.
