Nittany Lions drop a pair on second day of spring trip

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (March 6, 2012) – The Penn State Berks baseball team battled strong, but suffered setbacks to King's College and Averett University on Tuesday afternoon at The Ripken Experience. The Nittany Lions (0-4) fell 4-0 in the opener and 10-5 in the nightcap.

Aaron Wilkins went 2-for-2 to lead the offense against King's. Aaron Stupp made his 2012 debut with 5.0 innings pitched. He scattered five hits, while giving up three runs and striking out one. Dusten Rutt allowed two runs in two innings of work and Bryer Eshbach threw one shutout inning.

In the second game of the day, Berks led 3-2 after five innings, but the Cougars (11-4) plated eight runs over the next three innings to take control. The Nittany Lions rallied for two in the bottom of the ninth, but could not get any closer.

Connor Corson finished 3-for-4 with a double and one run batted in. Kyle Hartman collected two hits and two RBI, while Nick Vitelli had two hits and two runs scored.

The Nittany Lions will play Christopher Newport University on March 7 at 3 p.m. on the third day of their Spring Break Trip.
