Nittany Lions swept on the road by Immaculata

IMMACULATA, PA (March 21, 2012) -
The Penn State Berks softball team dropped a pair of non-conference contests to Immaculata University on Wednesday afternoon by scores of 8-1 and 3-1.

In the two games combined, Marissa Ruggiero finished 4-for-5, while Kelsey Halloran was 3-for-6. Both players recorded a double and Ruggiero also added an RBI in the first game.

Devon Denker pitched solid in the second contest, scattering eight hits over six innings. She allowed three runs - two earned - and only issued one base on balls. Denker allowed just one extra base hit and faced four batters or less in four innings.

Trailing 3-0, Kaylie Vrabel led off the top of the seventh with a single to left field and advanced to second on a single by Halloran. Stefany Dusman and Ruggiero were both hit by a pitch to cut the deficit to two runs. With the tying run on second base, Nikki Curcione finished off her complete game by getting a fly out to center field.

In the third inning of the opening game, Dusman and Ruggiero got the Nittany Lions on the board with a two out rally. Dusman singled to right field and came all the around to score on Ruggiero's double to right center.

The Nittany Lions will host their 2012 home opener on Monday, March 26 at 3 p.m. against Albright College.
