Nittany Lions down Abington in NEAC battle



READING, PA (February 08, 2012) - The Penn State Berks women's basketball team took care of business with a 66-45 win over Penn State Abington in Wednesday evening's North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest.

With the win, the Nittany Lions remain in the playoff hunt by improving to 6-8 in the conference. Lancaster Bible College is currently two games ahead of the Nittany Lions for the third and final playoff spot out of the southern division.

Shakiyla Stone dropped 20 points to lead all scorers on 8-of-15 shooting from the floor. The senior guard also recorded six rebounds, five assists and three steals. Kaley Kinek went 4-for-4 at the foul line and finished with 10 points.

Fatima Rone played a vital role coming off the bench with 11 points and six rebounds, while Sherrie Satchel added seven points and a team-high 10 boards. Keisha Robinson pulled down a career-high nine boards to help Berks win the rebounding battle by a 50-48 margin.

Abington received 15 points and 14 rebounds from Gabrielle Benedict, while Jessica Schmidt chipped in 10 points and eight boards. As a team, Abington just just 28.8% from the floor, including an 0-for-26 effort from beyond the arc.

The men's and women's basketball team's hosted a "Pink Games" fundraiser and combined to raised close to $200. Both teams donned pink shoot around shirts, socks and sweatbands to show their support.

All proceeds benefit the Breast Cancer Support Services of Berks County, a non-profit organization that provides hope, information, and emotional support to women diagnosed with breast cancer and those who care for and about them. (Click here for more information) Donations were made at the door and a half-court shooting contest was held at halftime of both games to raise additional money.

The Nittany Lions will host Wilson College on Sunday, February 12 at Beaver Community Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
