SUNYIT downs Nittany Lions in NEAC action



UTICA, NY (February 4, 2012) - All eight players scored for the Penn State Berks women's basketball team, but SUNYIT stayed hot with its 69-44 win in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) crossover on Saturday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions (6-13), who fell to 5-8 in the NEAC, trail Lancaster Bible by 2.5 games for the final playoff spot in the South Division. The Wildcats (16-3) improved to 10-1 in the NEAC Northern Division after winning for the 12th time in 13 games.

Berks led 10-5 in the early going, but the Wildcats used a 19-1 run to go ahead and eventually took a 41-20 lead into the break. For the game, the Nittany Lions shot 29.7% (19-of-64), while SUNYIT finished 35.4% (28-of-79).

Shakiyla Stone led the blue and white with 10 points and three assists. Fatima Rone come off the bench for seven points and team-high seven rebounds, while Kaelin Reed chipped in six points and grabbed six boards. Reed recorded one blocked shot, to run her consecutive games with a block streak up to eight.

Lyndsay Brognano had a game-high 19 points, followed by Sarah Couvillon with 13. Kayla McNeil rounded out the players in double-figures with 10 points. Nailah Cherry finished with a contest best 10 rebounds.

The Nittany Lions men's and women's teams will host Penn State Abington on Wednesday, Febrary 8 in their first annual "Pink Games". Proceeds will benefit the Breast Cancer Support Services of Berks County
