Nittany Lions down Gallaudet in NEAC opener

READING, PA (November 7, 2012) – The Penn State Berks women's basketball team grabbed its first win of the season with 62-56 victory over Gallaudet University in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) South Division contest at Beaver Community Center on Friday evening. (Boxscore)

The Nittany Lions (1-5, 1-0 NEAC South) jumped out to a 19-4 lead midway through the first period, but the gap was cut to one point entering halftime. Berks never trailed after the break and solidified the win with a solid 14-of-19 shooting at the foul line in the second half.

For the second game in a row, Kellie Wilson established a new career-high for points scored. She tallied 17 points on 4-of-12 shooting from the floor and 7-for-9 at the free throw line. The junior guard was clutch down the stretch, making 5-of-6 shots at the charity stripe.

Keisha Robinson turned in another fine performance for the Nittany Lions. The senior guard recorded 16 points, eight rebounds, five steals, and four assists. Sherrie Satchel earned her second double-double of the season with 10 points and 12 boards. Satchel also registered three blocked shots, raising her season total to 17.

Fatima Rone chipped in nine points and six rebounds, while Nichole Young-Trapp added four points and five rebounds.

The Bison (2-2, 0-1 NEAC South) were led by Lindsay Stergio's 22 point effort. She hauled in eight rebounds and played all 40 minutes of the game. Danielle Warren came off the bench to contribute eight points, and Amy Bachtel recorded eight points and eight rebounds.

The Nittany Lions will host Penn State Harrisburg in a NEAC South contest on Saturday, December 8 at 1 p.m. in Beaver Community Center.
