Nittany Lions rally falls short versus Albright

READING, PA (November 24, 2012) - The Penn State Berks men's basketball team battled back from a 22 points deficit, but could not pull out the victory in an 80-71 setback in Saturday afternoon's non-conference tilt against Albright College. (Boxscore)

The Nittany Lions trailed 40-28 at halftime and were in a 65-43 hole with 10:17 remaining in the contest. Dameon Nixon drained a 3-pointer to start a 22-8 run by Berks. A layup by Nixon cut the Albright (4-0) lead to just six points with 1:58 left, but that is as close as Berks could get with their comeback.

Jeff Schmidt, who was the leader scorer for Berks, shot 6-for-11 from the field and finished with a season-high 17 points. The senior forward also pulled down seven rebounds and recorded two steals.

Junior center Tom Smith enjoyed one of his strongest performances of the season with 11 points, nine rebounds, four assists, and two blocked shots.

Nixon also chipped 11 points, while Connor Hough added 10. Nixon and Hough each grabbed four boards and handed out two assists.

Albright was powered by a solid all-around performance from guard Dave Singleton. The 6-foot-4 guard recorded 17 points, 10 rebounds, six assists, and three steals. All four of those numbers were game-high's. Sam Marrella finished with 14 points and Pedro Perez followed with 13 to help the Lions hold off Berks.

The Nittany Lions will host DeSales University on Monday, November 26 at 7 p.m. in Beaver Community Center.
