Women's volleyball downs Abington in NEAC quarterfinal



WASHINGTON, D.C. (November 2, 2012) - The Penn State Berks women's volleyball team opened up the 2012 NEAC Championship with an impressive 3-0 win over Penn State Abington on Friday evening in the Field House at Gallaudet University. (Boxscore)

The Nittany Lions (19-9) won by games scores 25-14, 25-19, and 25-13 to advance to the semifinal round tomorrow at 11 a.m. against Keuka College.

Kayla Mosser, who was an All-NEAC Second Team selection, led the offensive attack with 10 kills while commiting just one error. The sophomore middle blocker also added one solo block and two block assists. Freshman Cassidy Schultz chipped in seven kills and Caitlin Scroger followed five.

Victoria Young and Courtney Lucarelli each recorded three service aces. Young, who was also an All-Conference Second Team honoree, picked up 24 of the Nittany Lions 57 digs. Katie Sostak was the next highest with eight digs.

ABBY MUSSELMAN, who was named to the All-NEAC Second Team, handed out 26 assists and four digs in the winning effort.

In addition to the Nittany Lions match with Keuka, tournament host Gallaudet will face Lancaster Bible College in the other semifinal contest. The winners will meet in the NEAC Championship, which is scheduled for 4 p.m. tomorrow afternoon.
