Women's volleyball falls in NEAC semifinal



WASHINGTON, D.C. (November 3, 2012) - The Penn State Berks women's volleyball season saw its 2012 season come to a close after dropping a hard fought battle to Keuka College, 3-2, in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Championship on Saturday afternoon. (Boxscore)

The Nittany Lions won the first two games by scores of 25-18 and 25-14, before the No. 2 seeded Storm responded with three straight by scores of 25-16, 29-27, 16-14.

Kayla Mosser and Maria Pavone tied for the team-lead with 14 kills each. Freshman Caitlin Scroger chipped in nine kills and Cassidy Schultz added eight.

The Nittany Lion defense gave an impressive effort, collecting 101 digs. Caitlin Scroger recorded a career-best 37 digs, followed by Abby Musselman (15), Courtney Lucarelli (15), and Scroger (11). Musselman also handed out 45 assists.

Schultz had four of the Nittany Lions four service aces, while Rachel Sweeney had three and Young had two.

Despite the loss, head coach Jessie Franko saw her team give one of the best and most complete efforts of the season. After four season's with the women's volleyball program, Franko has compiled a record of 77-41 overall and 29-8 in the conference.
