Women's volleyball split on second day of NEAC Divisional play



WASHINGTON, D.C. (October 6, 2012) - The Penn State Berks women's volleyball team opened up the day with 3-0 win over Penn State Abington before getting swept by host Gallaudet University on the second day of North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) play on Saturday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions (12-8, 6-2 NEAC) defeated Abington by game scores of 25-22, 25-20, 25-11 to run their season-high win streak up to six. But the Bison (22-5, 7-0 NEAC) halted the streak by winning 25-19, 25-16, 25-11.

In the opener, Maria Pavone led Berks with a contest-high 10 kills. She was followed by Kayla Mosser with eight and Rachel Sweeney with five. Freshman setter Abby Musselman handed out 26 assists and recorded 13 digs. Victoria Young led the Nittany Lions with 16 digs and Courtney Lucarelli chipped in 11. Lucarelli also notched two of Berks' five service aces.

Against Gallaudet, Musselman reached double-digits in assists (13) and digs (10) for the third straight game and sixth time this season. Caitlin Scroger led the Nittany Lions with six kills, followed by Mosser with five. Mosser added two solo blocks and Heleanna Davison recorded two block assists. Cassidy Schultz and Young tied for the team lead with 11 digs.

The Nittany Lions will host Marywood College on Tuesday, October 9 at 7 p.m. in Beaver Community Center.
