Nittany Lions go 2-0 on first day of NEAC Divisional play



WASHINGTON, D.C. (October 5, 2012) - The Penn State Berks women's volleyball team ran its win streak up to five straight with a pair of 3-0 victories on the first day of the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) South Division play on Friday afternoon at Gallaudet University. With the season-high win streak, the Nittany Lions have improved to 11-7 overall and 5-1 in the NEAC. Berks defeated Penn State Harrisburg by scores of 25-16, 25-13, 25-18 and capped off the day by downing the College of Saint Elizabeth with scores of 25-16, 25-14, 25-20.

In the opener, Kayla Mosser and Courtney Lucarelli each recorded seven kills to lead the offensive attack. As a team, the Nittany Lions collected 43 kills and had a .375 hitting percentage. Caitlin Scroger and Heleanna Davison each chipped six kills. Abby Musselman handed out 37 assists and Victoria Young had a contest-high 16 digs.

Against the Screaming Eagles, Mosser tallied 11 kills and matched a season-high with four solo blocks. Rachel Sweeney added six kills and Davison chipped in five. Musselman notched 30 assists and 15 digs, which tied her season-high recorded against Lancaster Bible College. Young recorded 16 digs to lead the defensive unit.

The Nittany Lions will face Penn State Abington at 12 p.m. and finish off the weekend against host Gallaudet University at 2 p.m.
