Conover leads Nittany Lions in 9-0 win over Gallaudet

READING, PA (October 20, 2012) - The Penn State Berks women's soccer team defeated Gallaudet University, 9-0, in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest on Saturday afternoon. (Boxscore)

The Nittany Lions wore pink jerseys as they hosted their first ever Pink Games fundraiser in support of breast cancer awareness. The men's and women's teams combined to raise $233.60, which will go to the Breast Cancer Support Services of Berks County.

Berks (12-2-1, 10-0-1 NEAC) improved its unbeaten streak to 12 contests and set a single-season school record for conference wins (10). The Nittany Lions sit atop the conference with 31 points in the standings, followed by Lancaster Bible College (30) and Penn State Harrisburg (30). Berks can clinch the regular-season championship and the rights to host the NEAC Tournament with a victory over Penn State Harrisburg next Saturday.

Sara Conover matched her season-high of four goals, raising her team-leading total to 19 this season. Chelsea Ray and Steph Tankalavage each recorded one goal and two assists. Caitlin Deibler, Meaghan Daly, and Jenna Fick also added goals for the Nittany Lions, while Katie Warner and Emma Babp each tallied an assist.

Berks outshot the Bison by a 33-1 margin and held a 4-1 advantage on corner kicks. Sophomore Savannah Cramer was untested as the lone Gallaudet shot sailed high over the crossbar. Cramer lowered her goals against average to 0.58 and combined with Sarah Elmontacir for the eighth shutout of the season.


The Nittany Lions will host SUNY Maritime in a the final regular-season home match of the season on Thursday, October 25 at 7 p.m.
