Men's soccer falls in overtime to Abington

READING, PA (October 13, 2012) - The Penn State Berks men's soccer team had an offensive outburst in the second half before suffering a 4-3 loss in overtime to Penn State Abington in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest on Saturday afternoon. (Boxscore)

The Nittany Lions hung tough with NEAC leading Abington through regulation, but Alex Martins second goal of the match ended the game in the 93rd minute.

Berks evened the contest just before halftime when Justin Bass lined a direct kick into the top right corner for his fourth goal of the season. Martins put Abington ahead 2-1 with an unassisted goal at the 61:31 mark of the match. Berks countered back quickly to even the match a little over two minutes later.

Bass placed a direct kick deep into the box and Cory Garritano headed it over the keeper through the right side. Freshman Tim Petrowsky gave Berks its first lead of the match with a chip shot over the keeper in the 70th minute. Evan Steigerwalt provided the assist on the play.

Martins helped Abington even the match at 3-all with an assist on a goal by Matt Howard in the 79th minute.

Berks keeper John Murphy finished the contest with seven saves, a number of them in diving acrobatic fashion. For the season, Murphy has accumulated 97 saves which is the fourth most in a season in school history.

The Nittany Lions will host Baptist Bible College on Tuesday, October 16 at 4 p.m.
