Kenny paces Nittany Lions in win over Wells

AURORA, NY (January 7, 2012) - Ashley Kenny recorded a double-double to lead the Penn State Berks women's basketball team to a 67-62 win over Wells College in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest on Saturday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions improve to 2-7 overall and 1-2 in the NEAC, while the Express fall to 1-9 overall and 1-2 in the conference. It was the first contest for Berks since playing Gallaudet University on December 11.

Kenny matched a season-high 17 points and grabbed a personal-best 15 boards to lead the Nittany Lions. The junior forward registered seven of her points from the foul line. Shakiyla Stone also finished in double-figures with a 12 point effort. Keisha Robinson contributed strongly in her Berks debut with eight points, all of which came from the foul line. Chanell Jones and Kaelin Reed also added eight points for the Nittany Lions.

Wells shot 44.9% from the floor and 36.4% from beyond the arc, compared to 29.6% and 25.0% by Berks. The Express also held an 8-0 margin on blocked shot. The differencemaker was Berks' defense forced 31 turnovers, while committing just 16. Another reason for the victory was the Nittany Lions converting on 23 of their 35 trips to the free throw line, while the Express went 14-of-23.

The Express were led by sophomore Ashley Roser's 24 points and 13 rebounds. She also handed out five assists and recorded five blocked shots. Kristen Ryan added 11 points and Jordan Peterson netted 10.

The Nittany Lions will travel to Keuka College for a 3 p.m. NEAC contest on Sunday, January 8.
