Stone powers Nittany Lions to second straight win



CHAMBERSBURG, PA (January 29, 2012) - The Penn State Berks women's basketball team won two straight for the first time this season and three of its last four games after defeating Wilson College, 68-56, in Sunday afternoon's North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest.

With the win, the Nittany Lions (6-12, 5-7 NEAC) stayed alive in the NEAC Southern Division playoff picture, moving to two games back of Lancaster Bible College (7-5 NEAC) for the third and final spot. Penn State Harrisburg (9-1 NEAC) and the College of St. Elizabeth (8-3 NEAC) lead the division.

Coming off of yesterday's season-best 22 point effort against Lancaster Bible, Shakiyla Stone stayed hot with a team-high 16 points on Sunday. She finished 6-of-10 shooting from the floor and converted on 3-of-5 trips to the foul line.

Ashley Kenny also maintained her high level of play with her fifth double-double of the season. The junior forward registered 15 points and 11 rebounds. She matched a season-high with six steals. Freshman Sherrie Satchel brought down a season-high 11 boards, matching Kenny for a contest-high. Keisha Robinson gave a strong all-around performance with 10 points, six assists, five steals and four rebounds.

Kaelin Reed had one blocked shot to fourth for a single-season (27) in program history. It is the seventh consecutive game in which she swatted a shot.

Vanessa Whitfield led all scorers with 26 points on 10-of-19 shooting from the floor. She also recorded nine rebounds, three assists, three steals and blocked two shots. Tara Fields followed with 16 points and team-best four assists.

The Nittany Lions will enjoy a six day layoff before traveling to SUNYIT for a NEAC crossover contest on Saturday, February 4. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
