Nittany Lions hold off Cazenovia comeback to earn NEAC win



READING, PA (January 22, 2012) - A strong defensive effort and timely shooting helped give the Penn State Berks women's basketball team a 49-46 victory over Cazenovia College in Sunday afternoon's North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest.

The Nittany Lions (4-11, 3-6 NEAC South) forced 30 turnovers and held Cazenovia to 29.0% shooting from the floor. Berks, however, committed 25 turnovers and shot 26.6% from the floor. The difference was the teams' performances at the free throw line. Both teams struggled, but the Wildcats (5-10, 4-4 NEAC) converted on just eight of their 16 trips, while Berks made 14 of its 27 visits.

Berks led 24-18 at half and were ahead by 11 points with 8:49 to play. After the Wildcats cut the lead to 44-42, Keisha Robinson responded with two of her team-high 15 points. She also made a pair of free throws to put Berks up by six points with just 59 seconds remaining. The Wildcats hit a 3-pointer as time expired to make the final score a little tighter.

In addition to leading the team in scoring, Robinson recorded a contest-high six steals and a personal-best seven rebounds. Ashley Kenny notched her third double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds. She handed out a game-high four assists. Kaelin Reed grabbed nine rebounds and had a season-high four blocked shots. Sherrie Satchel chipped in nine points, seven rebounds, three blocked shots and three steals.

Megan McDermott supplied the bulk of the Wildcats offensive production with 26 points on 9-of-22 shooting. She also recorded 11 rebounds and three steals. Erin O'Malley had a contest-high 12 rebounds and also blocked three shots. Vicki Dufort added 10 rebounds and seven points.

The Nittany Lions will travel to the College of St. Elizabeth for an NEAC showdown on Wednesday, January 25. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
