TOWSON, MD (September 3, 2011) – JONATHAN JABLONKA and the Penn State Berks men's soccer team turned in a solid defensive performance against tournament host Goucher College on Saturday afternoon. The effort came up just short as the Nittany Lions fell 1-0 on Beldon Field and dropped to 0-2 overall to start the season.
Jablonka kept Berks in the contest all day after making a career-high 14 saves in net as Goucher rattled off 28 shots. The sophomore keeper has stopped 22 shots in the two games combined this season.
The Gophers (1-1) broke the scoreless tie at the 62:56 mark on an unassisted goal by Elijah Lais. Sophomore keeper David Spivey made three saves to earn his first shutout of the season.
Zachary Alesi, EMMANUEL CAESAR, SETH STONER and CORY GARRITANO each had shots on goal, but were unable to find the back of the net.
In addition to outshooting Berks 28-9, the Gophers held a 6-0 advantage on corner kicks.
The Nittany Lions will complete the two day tournament with a noon contest against Wesley College on Sunday afternoon.
