Berks, Keuka play to a draw

BERNVILLE, PA (September 10, 2011) - NATALIE WOODS broke a scoreless tie in the 59th minute, but Keuka College scored six minutes later as the teams played to a 1-1 draw in the North Eastern Athletic Conference opener on Saturday afternoon. (Boxscore)

The Nittany Lions move to 0-2-1 overall and 0-0-1 in the NEAC, while Keuka has an overall record of 0-1-1 and 0-0-1 in the conference.

Woods, a sophomore midfielder, scored her first collegiate goal after deflecting a a pass from
Chelsea Ray into the right corner of the net.

Freshman keeper
SAVANNAH CRAMER played brilliant in the 110 minutes of action. She made four saves.

The Nittany Lions were able to keep the ball on the offensive end of the field for most of the contest. Berks outshot Keuka by a 23-7 margin, but keeper Ashley Swarts made 12 saves to keep the Storm in the contest.

In the final minute of regulation KATIE WARNER booted a shot from 20 yards out, but Swarts jumped up and snagged the ball out of the air to send the match to overtime.

Keuka recorded the only three shots taken in the overtime periods. In the final seconds of the second overtime, the Storm send in a corner kick and Kristen Bartholomay had two shots blocked by Cramer in the span of four seconds.

The Nittany Lions will face Wells College in a conference tilt at 3 p.m. The match will be played at Hamburg High School.
