Nittany Lions fall to Immaculata in home opener

READING, PA (November 22, 2011) – The Penn State Berks women's basketball team was unable to overcome an early deficit as they lost to Immaculata University, 86-57, in a non-conference contest at Beaver Community Center on Tuesday evening.

Playing in the first game in front of their home crowd, the Nittany Lions (1-3) fell behind 22-2 in the first four-plus minutes of the contest. The Mighty Macs (2-2) took a 49-21 lead into the halftime intermission. The Nittany Lions showed signs of life in the second half with 32 points over the final 13 minutes.

Fatima Rone made an immediate impact with a season-high 10 points off the bench for the Nittany Lions. She played just 12 minutes – all in the second half – but was a very efficient 4-for-5 from the floor and made both of shots at the free throw line. Rone also grabbed four rebounds and made numerous stops on the defensive end.

Emily Pufnock, Shakiyla Stone and Kellie Wilson each hit one 3-pointer and all finished with nine points. Ashley Kenny chipped in six points and had a team-high 10 rebounds. Kenny and Jamie Norris each recorded three blocks and the Nittany Lions had nine as a team.

Bridget Welz led the Mighty Macs with 16 points and four assists. Kelly Brown added 13 points and Leah Kuczynski finished with 10. Immaculata won the battle on boards by a 64-44 margin.

The Nittany Lions will return to Beaver Community Center on Monday, November 28 against Stevenson University. The contest is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
