Women's basketball lose in Roadrunner Tip-Off Tournament



MAHWAH, NJ (November 18, 2011) - The Penn State Berks women's basketball team lost, 77-45, to Purchase College in the first day of the Roadrunner Tip-Off Tournament hosted by Ramapo College on Friday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions (0-2) trailed 32-21 at halftime and narrowed the deficit to six points with 15:58 to go in the contest. The Panthers (1-1) shot 44.7% in the second half to pull away with the victory.

Junior Ashley Kenny led the Nittany Lions with 14 points and nine rebounds. She has led the squad in scoring in both contests this season and is averaging 15.5 points per game. Shakiyla Stone followed Kenny in scoring with nine points. The senior guard dished out a team-best five assists and recorded four steals. Kaelin Reed chipped in six points and eight boards, while Jaslyn Silva buried two 3-pointers to also finish with six points.

Berks forced 28 turnovers, while committing 26 of their own. The Panthers outrebounded the Nittany Lions 57-48 and also dominated at the foul line. Purchase converted 15 of 20 shots at the charity stripe, while the blue-and-white struggled with a 3-for-14 effort.

Rachel Perrone recorded a double-double (19 points, 17 rebounds) to lead the Panthers. She was followed by Jessica Perrone with 14 points and Alyse LaPadula added 11.

The Nittany Lions will face Medgar Evers College in the consolation contest at 1 p.m. Purchase will face host Ramapo at 3 p.m. in the championship round.
