Nittany Lions drop season opener to Albright



READING, PA (November 15, 2011) - Ashley Kenny shined her debut, but the Penn State Berks women's basketball team fell to Albright College, 85-57, in the season opener on Tuesday afternoon at the Bollman Center.

Kenny, a junior transfer, led all scorers with 17 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the floor. She also added seven rebounds and handed out two assists. Sophomore Kellie Wilson finished with a personal-best 10 points in her first career start.

Chanell Jones and Emily Pufnock each chipped in seven points. Freshman Kaelin Reed had a team-high eight rebounds her first collegiate contest.

Albright jumped out to an early 11-0 to start the contest, but the Nittany Lions cut the lead to six points with 6:52 remaining in the half. Berks was unable to get any closer the rest of the way.

Both teams shot lights out in the opening half, with Albright taking a 49-36 lead into intermission.  Berks shot  46.4 clip from the floor, while Albright was a very efficient 59.4 percent. Albright finished at 50.0 percent for the game after maintaining the hot shooting into the second half.

The Lions had four players finish in double figures, led by Jessica Venturelli's 14 points. Meghan Boyle added 11, while Jenny Knoebel and Victoria Smith both had 10 points. Knoebel recorded seven assists and five rebounds.

The Nittany Lions will compete in the Roadrunner Tip-Off Tournament this weekend at Ramapo College. They will face Purchase College on Friday, November 18 at 7:30 p.m.
