Men's soccer earns NEAC win over Morrisville State

READING, PA (October 9, 2011) – Collin McCormick drilled a 50-yard direct kick into the back of the net for his first goal of the season as the Penn State Berks men's soccer team defeated Morrisville State, 2-1, on Sunday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions held off a late comeback by the Morrisville State to pick up their first NEAC victory. The Mustang's managed three corner kicks in the final seven minutes, but Berks was able to clear all of the attempts with no harm done.

After a foul call against Morrisville State in the 40th minute, McCormick took a direct kick just yards away from the center circle in Mustang territory. The sophomore defender made the most of his chance on the offensive end with a line drive over the outstretched arms of the keeper and into the top right corner.

Zachary Alesi tacked on to the lead with a breakaway goal at the 55:24 mark. Alesi raced from midfield, beating two Mustang defenders and the keeper with a shot on the left side.

The lead was sliced in half in the 68th minute on a goal by Tom Huber. Jonathan Jablonka and the Berks defense would not all the Mustangs to get any closer. Jablonka finished the contest with 12 saves, the fifth time this season he reached double-digits. Jablonka leads the NEAC with 109 saves this season.

The Mustang's held the advantage in shots on goal (23-9) and corner kicks (7-1), but Berks was able to come up with big play time and time again.

The Nittany Lions will travel to Baptist Bible College for a non-conference tilt on Wednesday, October 12 at 3:30 p.m.
