READING, PA (October 8, 2011) – The Penn State Berks women's soccer team provided constant pressure on the offensive end, but it did not translate to any goals in a 1-0 loss to Cazenovia College on Saturday afternoon. ( BOXSCORE )
The Nittany Lions (6-5-1, 5-2-1 NEAC) had 18 shots, 10 of which were on goal. The Wildcats (4-7-1, 4-2-1 NEAC) had only four shots on goal, but made the most of it with a score in the 16th minute.
Kim Konnick worked past the Berks defense and chipped a shot into the top left corner for what proved to be the game winner.
In the second half, Alexa Shumate fired a groundball from the top of the box that trickled through the keeper's hands. Lyndsay Naughton slid in and knocked the ball into the net what should have been the tying goal. The Nittany Lions celebration was cut short, however, when the referees called it off, declaring the keeper had possession and the play was dead.
Berks kept at the Wildcats with several more scoring opportunities. Cazenovia keeper Vicki Dufort registered 10 saves to earn the victory in net. Savannah Cramer kept the Nittany Lions in striking distance with three saves.
The Nittany Lions will return to action tomorrow at 3 p.m. in a NEAC contest with Morrisville State.
