READING, PA (October 3, 2011) – Kiernan Boone scored his first goal of the season, but it wasn't enough as the Penn State Berks men's soccer team fell, 2-1, to Rosemont College on Monday afternoon.
The teams played through a scoreless tie throughout the first 60-plus minutes. After Rodney Aguirre put the Ravens up 1-0 at the 62:44 mark, the Nittany Lions responded with one of their own.
Boone booted the ball out of midair and into the left corner in the 65th minute to even the contest at one. Seth Stoner set the goal up by sliding in front of the keeper and flipping the ball over to Boone.
Aguirre then tallied the decisive goal at 84 minutes, 51 seconds using his breakaway speed.
Sophomore goalkeeper Jonathan Jablonka kept Berks in the contest with a 12 save effort. It was the fourth time this season that Jablonka reached double-digits in saves.
Berks had another scoring chance but missed by a matter of inches. After a Rosemont foul, Cory Garritano chipped a shot from just outside the box that carried over the keeper outstretched arms and over the crossbar.
The Ravens outshot Berks by a 21-7 margin and both teams had two corner kicks.
The Nittany Lions will host Bryn Athyn College on Wednesday, October 5 at 4 p.m.
