Binder fuels Berks comeback over Fighting Tigers

COBLESKILL, N.Y. (January 29, 2011) – Steph Binder scored a team-high 21 points  to help lead the Penn State Berks women's basketball team to a 60-58 come-from-behind win on the road over SUNY Cobleskill in Saturday's North Eastern Athletic Conference contest.

The Nittany Lions (10-7, 9-5 NEAC) erased a late 14 point deficit to earn their season-high fourth consecutive win. The Fighting Tigers trail the Nittany Lions by two games in the standings after falling to 8-9 overall and 7-7 in the NEAC. Berks gained sweet revenge from an 81-79 overtime loss on December 5 at Beaver Community Center.

Binder moved into second place all-time in program history with 1,114 points. Trailing 42-28 with 13:40 remaining in the contest, Binder recorded 14 points in a 32-12 run by Berks.  The senior forward hit a jumper with 35 seconds remaining to go up 58-56, the first Lion lead since 18-17 in the first half. Binder also pulled in 11 rebounds to record her second double-double of the season.

After Binder's jumper, Taylor Kreider tacked on a pair of free throws in the final 15 seconds to give the Lions a four point lead. A lay-in by Katora Brown pulled the Fighting Tigers within two, but the Lions were able to run out the clock and secure the win.

Kreider notched her seventh double-double of the season with 11 points, 12 boards. Kreider handed out a season-best six assists and the Lions recorded 16 in the contest. Shakiyla Stone chipped in nine points and dished out three assists.

The Lions overcame a sluggish first half that was filled with poor shooting and foul trouble. Berks shot at a 9-for-41 clip and were down 31-24 at the half. After the intermission the Lions improved with 48.3 % shooting from the floor.

Alexis Hauser finished with a game-high 22 points. The Nittany Lions adjusted their defense in the final minutes, forcing the ball out of Hauser's hands and thus quieting the Tiger offense.

The Lions will continue NEAC play tomorrow at noon in a showdown with SUNY IT. The Wildcats (11-6, 10-5 NEAC) lead the Nittany Lions for fourth place by a half game.
