Lions stay hot with win over Wilson

READING, PA (January 25, 2011) - The Penn State Berks women's basketball team downed Wilson College, 67-42, in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest at Beaver Community Center on Tuesday evening.

The Nittany Lions have reeled off a three game win streak and are winners in six of their last seven contests. The Lions never trailed throughout the game and took a commanding 42-23 lead into the halftime intermission.

Shakiyla Stone was a scoring machine in the first half. She netted 17 points on 6-for-8 shooting from the floor, including three 3-pointers. Stone, who saw limited action in the second half with the game in control, finished the day with 18 points.

The suffocating defense of the Lions forced 33 turnovers. Stone and Taylor Kreider each recorded five steals and Berks scored 27 points off turnovers. Kreider helped out in the scoring with 13 points and Steph Binder chipped in 12. Kreider also finished with a game-high eight rebounds as Berks won the battle of the boards (38-30).

The Lions outscored Wilson 34-10 in the paint and the bench held a 25-0 advantage. Nine players scored two points or more for the Nittany Lions. Turquoise Jackson, who played a season-high 12 minutes, hit a turnaround jumper at the 7:20 mark for her first basket of the season.

Berks improved to 8-5 in the NEAC standings and moved into a tie for fourth place SUNYIT, who they will face on Sunday. Berks will look to avenge an early season overtime loss when they visit SUNY Cobleskill on Saturday.
