Keuka wins defensive battle with Lions

READING, PA (January 16, 2011) - The Penn State Berks women's basketball team dropped a 51-44 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest to Keuka College on Sunday afternoon at Beaver Community Center.

The Storm improved to 13-1 overall and 11-1 in the NEAC, which is second in the standings. The Nittany Lions dropped to 6-7 overall and 5-5 in the conference.

Both teams struggled shooting in the first half and entered the intermission deadlocked at 21. In the first half, the Lions led by as much six and never trailed by more than three.

After the Storm built a 30-23 second half lead, Taylor Kreider and Steph Binder scored combined for 10 straight points to claim a three point lead with 11:30 remaining in the contest. The lead was short lived as Keuka went on an 11-0 run to grab the lead for good.

Kreider continued her phenomenal play on both ends of the court. The freshman guard finished with 15 points and 16 rebounds, which were each game-high's. Binder finished the game with 12 points and brought down nine boards.

The Storm received 15 points and seven rebounds from Mariah Mouzon, while Nadia Madmoune recorded 11 rebounds. Brittany Schrock added nine points, six rebounds and five assists.

Keuka shot just 25% (4-for-16) from beyond the arc for the game, but the Lions were unable to connect on any of their 18 long distance shots. The Lions forced 30 turnovers, 20 of which came in the first half.

The Lions will return to action on Wednesday, January 22 in a 5:30 p.m. NEAC contest at Penn State Abington.
