Towson, MD. (September 3, 2010) – JASON STONER scored a goal midway through the second half, but it was not enough as the men's soccer team fell 2-1 in the opening round of this weekend's tournament to host Goucher College.
Despite being outshot 27-4, the Berks men were able to stay within striking distance throughout the match. With 26:09 remaining in the contest, Stoner took a pass from CASEY CORREA and beat the goalkeeper with a low shot to even the score at one apiece.
The winning margin came off a header by Elijah Lais with just under nine minutes left in the match. Manuel Carranza crossed a pass from the sideline and Lais then found the back of the net. Andrew Bull got the scoring started in the first half with an assist from Jay Berger at the 16:32 mark.
Senior Jonathan Martin made eight saves in the first half and six in the second.
The men will return to action on Saturday at 5 p.m. against Greensboro, who fell to Lebanon Valley 4-1 earlier Friday afternoon.
