Kreider's goal not enough in loss to Alvernia

READING, PA (September 29, 2010) – The Penn State Berks women's soccer team dropped its nonconference contest with Alvernia University by a score of 4-1 on Wednesday afternoon at Schlager Memorial Field.

The Crusaders (8-2-1) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead with a goal by Kelsey Gill only a minute, 58 into the match.  After another Alvernia score, TAYLOR KREIDER sliced the lead in half with an unassisted goal in the 41st minute.

That was as close as the Nittany Lions (4-4) would get, as Alvernia tacked on two goals in the second half to put the match out of reach. ALYSSA SCHEIDT had a shot on goal, but was unable to get past Kirsten Kelly, who made two saves.

Junior keeper CASSIDY DAWSON was busy all day, as the Crusaders were able to get off 13 shots on goal. Dawson finished the match with nine saves, six of which came in the second half.

The women's soccer team will host the College of St. Elizabeth on Saturday, October 2 at 1 p.m. in a North Eastern Athletic Conference showdown.
