Berks splits conference contests on Saturday

Abington, PA (September 25, 2010) - The Penn State Berks women's volleyball team opened up North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) play with a 3-0 win over host Penn State Abington. Berks was in total control of all three sets, winning by scores of 25-14, 25-11 and 25-3.

In the final game freshman ALEX HEDRICK rattled off point after point, collecting 10 service aces. She had 20 consecutive serves for the Nittany Lions to put away Abington. The Lions continued their best start in program history, improving their record to 9-2 overall and 1-0 in the NEAC.

The rest of the Berks team matched Hedrick's output for aces to finish the match with 20 aces, which is the second most this season.

AMY SHELTON had seven kills and did not commit an error on 15 attacks. SUZI SHELTON and RACHEL SWEENEY each recorded six kills.

GLENDA NGO had 15 assists, to give her 311 total only 11 matches into the season. KATIE SOSTAK had a game-high 16 digs and JERICA DETSCH recorded six. STEPH SEMPLE had two solo blocks and assisted on two others, as Berks collected seven team blocks.

Berks will play again at 2 p.m. against Gallaudet. The NEAC play continues tomorrow with matches against St. Elizabeth and Penn State Harriburg at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m., respectively.

Abington, PA (September 25, 2010) - The Penn State Berks women's volleyball team dropped its night match on Saturday against Gallaudet by a score of 3-0. The Lions fell by set scores of 25-10, 33-31 and 25-12.

JERICA DETSCH had a team-high six kills and six digs, while AMY SHELTON chipped in with five kills. GLENDA NGO dished out 13 assists and KATIE SOSTAK led the match with 16 digs.

Berks will return to action tomorrow with matches against St. Elizabeth and Penn State Harrisburg at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m., respectively.
