King's strong second half downs men's soccer

Boxscore

Reading, PA (September 22, 2010) - ZACHARY ALESI pulled the Penn State Berks men's soccer team even with an early second half goal, but King's College scored five unanswered goals to win 6-1 in Wednesday afternoon's nonconference contests.

The teams battled through a nearly even 45 minutes, with the Monarchs (5-3) taking a 1-0 lead into the half.

Logan Langseth drove down into the right corner and crossed a pass that set up a great scoring opportunity a mere 25 seconds into the half. The goal did not come off that pass, due to a Alesi being knocked to the ground setting up a penalty kick. In the one-on-one showdown, the keeper guessed correct with his dive, but Alesi had enough power to beat him into the top right corner.

The Monarchs would pull away when Joey Bender added his second goal of the contest in the 52nd minute. A minute later, Alex Martino scored the first of his two goals, with an assist from George Genco. J.D. Cook and Max Allegro each tacked on a score in the final five minutes of play.

Freshman keeper JONATHAN JABLONKA made a season-high six saves for the Nittany Lions. In the second half, he made a diving stop on a Dan Horn breakaway to keep Berks within two goals at the time.

The Monarchs held the advantage in shots (26-5) and corner kicks (9-1).

Penn State Berks will return to action this weekend, hosting SUNY Cobleskill and SUNYIT on Saturday and Sunday in North Eastern Athletic Conference contests.
