Scheidt, Kreider lead Berks to win over Wells

AURORA, NY (September 11, 2010) – ALYSSA SCHEIDT and TAYLOR KREIDER provided more than enough offense as the Penn State women's soccer team downed Wells College 8-1 on the road Saturday afternoon.

The win was the first of the season for the Nittany Lions and gave them a 1-0 start in North East Athletic Conference play.

Scheidt, a freshman forward, scored her first collegiate goal at the 19:04 mark of the first half. She then tacked on a few more, finishing the contest with a four goal performance. When Scheidt was scoring goals, she was dishing out an assist on Kreider's second goal of the day.

Kreider also gave a sterling effort with three goals, including the first two of the match. Kreider and Scheidt find themselves tied for the team lead with four goals each this season.

The other Berks goal came from BRI ARNOLD, her first of the season. Midway through the second half, ASHLEY PARDOSKI threw in to Arnold, who chipped a shot over the keepers head from 20 yards out.

The strong offensive output and tough defensive play limited the Express to only three shots on the day. CASSIDY DAWSON made one save and picked up the win in the net for the Nittany Lions.

Berks dominated on all facets of the game, holding a 30-3 shot advantage and 15-0 on corner kicks.

The women will look to carry this momentum into Sunday's conference battle with Keuka College at 1 p.m.
