CHAMBERSBURG, PA (December 11, 2010) - Steph Binder scored 14 points to reach the 1,000 point milestone as the Penn State Berks women's basketball team defeated Wilson College, 68-44, on Saturday afternoon.
The win ends a three-game skid, bringing the Nittany Lions record to 3-5 overall and 2-3 in the North Eastern Athletic Conference. It was the seventh straight loss for the Express, who are 2-8 overall and 1-6 in the conference.
Freshman Taylor Kreider recorded her second straight double-double with team-high's 16 points and 12 rebounds. Keyaundra Williams rounded out the Lions in double-figures with 10 points and had a season-high nine rebounds. Binder matched a career-best with four blocks and pulled down eight boards.
Chanell Jones, making her first start of the season, netted nine points and grabbed eight rebounds.
The only lead for the Phoenix came with the score 3-2 and after a 7-7 tie Berks was able to pull away for good. The Nittany Lions allowed only 14 field goals by Wilson, holding them to 25% shooting from the floor.
Binder hit a jumper with 4:11 remaining in the first half to reach the milestone and tacked on four more throughout the game to sit at 1,005 points. She joins teammate Jasmine Harris-Kane, former teammate Courtney Bailey and Jillian Gondal as the only members of the 1,000 point club at Penn State Berks.
It took the forward 85 games played to reach the scoring plateau. Last season, Binder had a career-best 363 points. She had 298 in her freshman campaign and 252 as a sophomore. Through eight games this season, Binder has tallied 92 points.
The Lions will have an eight day rest before they host Gallaudet University on Sunday, December 19 at 3 p.m. in Beaver Community Center.
