Volleyball downs Keuka to earn trip to NEAC Championship

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. (November 6, 2010) - The Penn State Berks women's volleyball team won a 3-2 thriller over Keuka College on Saturday morning to reach the North Eastern Athletic Conference Championship against Gallaudet.

Keuka entered the contest at the No. 1 seed in the North after going 8-0 in conference play, while Berks was No. 2 in the South with a 7-1 record. The teams lost 18-25 in the first game and alternated wins in the next three (25-23, 22-25, 25-23). In the decisive fifth game, the Lions won 15-8 to advance to the championship contest at 3 p.m.

The Lions made a killing in the front row and at the service line. The Lions compiled 11 team blocks and nine aces.

Amy Shelton continued her phenomenal play in the hugest contests. The freshman pounded out 20 kills and racked up four totals blocks, including three solo.

Senior Jerica Detsch had a team-high four aces and 22 digs. She also added eight kills, while Rachel Sweeney chipped in with nine kills and three aces. Suzi Shelton and Christine Kantonides each recorded seven kills.

Glenda Ngo handed out 42 assists, raising her season total to 985.
