Berks volleyball advances to NEAC semifinal

KEUKA PARK, NY (November 5, 2010) - The Penn State Berks women's volleyball team downed Cazenovia College 3-0 on Friday afternoon in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) quarterfinal contest.

The Lions dominated right from the start with a 25-6 win in the first game. Berks took the final two by scores of 25-10 and 25-13.

With the victory, the Nittany Lions (No. 2 seed in the south) advance to the semifinals against the north top seed and host Keuka College. The match will begin at noon on Saturday. The south No. 1 seed Gallaudet University will take on SUNYIT in the other semifinal contest.

Freshman AMY SHELTON led the Nittany Lions with 11 kills and did not commit an error in 16 attempts. Shelton also assisted on two blocks, both with CHRISTINE KANTONIDES.

Senior JERICA DETSCH had nine kills and a team-high 14 digs, while RACHEL SWEENEY chipped in with eight kills and three service aces. GLENDA NGO also had three aces and dished out 29 assists.

The winners of the semifinal contests will face off in the NEAC Championship at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
