Binder's double-double powers Berks to win

READING, PA (November 30, 2010) - Steph Binder notched a double-double to lead the Penn State Berks women's basketball team to a 65-45 win over Penn State Abington in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) opener at Beaver Community Center.

The win evens Berks' overall record to 2-2 and 1-0 in the conference, while Abington falls to 1-3 overall and 0-1 in the NEAC.

A free throw by Kellie Wilson gave Berks a 12-11, a lead the Lions would not relinquish for the rest of the contest. Berks went on a 19-7 run to close out the half and built a commanding 12 point cushion.

Binder finished with 14 points and 11 rebounds, which were both team game-high's. She now sits 42 points away from joining Jasmine Harris-Kane and Courtney Bailey in 1,000 point club.

At halftime Bailey, who wrapped up her senior season last year, was honored as her number 32 jersey was retired. She finished her career with 1,832 points and 1,621 rebounds, which are both easily the most in program history.

Chanell Jones made a strong impact off the bench with a season-high 10 points and a career-best seven rebounds. Taylor Kreider chipped in nine points, while Jamie Norris brought down nine boards.

As a team, Berks shot 20-for-30 from the free throw line. Berks outrebounded Abington 50-46 and held a 21-12 advantage in steals.

Berks will host SUNYIT and SUNY Cobleskill this weekend in NEAC contests, both of which will tip-off at 1 p.m. in Beaver Community Center.
