READING, PA (November 27, 2010) - Three players finished in double-figures, but it wasn't enough as the Penn State Berks women's basketball team fell, 76-67, to Albright College on Saturday afternoon at Beaver Community Center.
The loss drops the Nittany Lions to 1-2 in the early going, while Albright even its record at 2-2.
Shakiyla Stone led all Berks scorers with 17 points. She also recorded six rebounds which trailed Jamie Norris' seven boards. Both Taylor Kreider and Keyaundra Williams finished the contest with 12 points.
Williams came on strong in the second half with 10 of her points. She picked up six of them at the foul line after fearlessly attacking the hoop through traffic.
The Nittany Lions used an 8-2 run to enter the halftime intermission in just a two point deficit. A layup by Williams with 10:50 cut the lead to 50-49, but Albright went on an 8-0 run to pull away. MariLynn McMonagle tallied 12 of 16 points in the second half and Jessica McGinness finished with a game-high 19 points.
Each team took advantage of their opportunities at the free throw line. Albright drained 20-of-28, while Berks went 17-for-25.
The Lions open up conference play when they host Penn State Abington on Tuesday, November 30 at 6 p.m.
