Lions blank SUNY Morrisville in NEAC battle

MORRISVILLE, NY (October 9, 2010) - The Penn State Berks women's soccer team kept up its dominant play in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) with a 3-0 victory on the road over SUNY Morrisville on Saturday afternoon.

The win improves Berks to 6-5 overall and 5-1 in conference play, while Morrisville falls to 1-9 overall and 0-6 in the NEAC.

The Mustang's prepared themselves for the high scoring Nittany Lions by keeping as many as nine defenders in the box. It took until the 40th minute to break the scoreless tie, when BRI ARNOLD found the back of the net with an unassisted goal.

Between the Mustang game plan and the solid Berks defense, Morrisville was unable to register a shot on goal. The Lions on the other hand, were able to rattle of 41 shots, 19 of which were on goal. The Lions also held a 16-0 advantage in corner kicks.

It was the third match this season in which the Nittany Lions did not allow a goal. Junior keeper CASSIDY DAWSON, the beneficiary of the stellar defense, now has a 1.79 goals against average.

Berks put the contest well out of reach with second half goals from Lexi Shumate and LYNDSAY NAUGHTON.  Arnold had the assist on Naughton's goal.

The women will be right back in action tomorrow at 12 p.m. with a conference tilt against Cazenovia.
