Lions volleyball blanks Gwynedd-Mercy

READING, PA (October 5, 2010) - The Penn State Berks women's volleyball team had a 3-0 shutout over visiting Gwynedd-Mercy in a nonconference contest Tuesday evening.

The Nittany Lions (13-3) grabbed the first set 25-9, followed by 25-11 win in the second set. In the game three clincher, Berks outlasted the Griffins comeback bid to with a 25-20 victory.

In the second game, SUZI SHELTON was instrumental in the Lions 17-5 run to close out the set. She had four consecutive service aces to give Berks complete control of the entire match.

In addition to Shelton's four aces, the four Lions combined for seven other aces.

RACHEL SWEENEY had a contest-best eight kills, followed by JERICA DETSCH and Shelton with seven each. AMY SHELTON, the current NEAC Student-Athlete of the Week, finished with four kills and 2.5 blocks.

GLENDA NGO dished out 22 assists, raising her season total to 419.

The women will host Marywood University on Thursday night at 7 p.m. in Beaver Community Center.
