MIDDLETOWN, PA (October 30, 2010) - Mary Sofish found the most opportune time to score her first goal of the season, tallying the lone score in Penn State Berks 1-0 road victory over Penn State Harrisburg in Saturday afternoon's North Eastern Athletic Conference contest.
By winning the regular season finale, the Nittany Lions improved to 9-2 in the conference and 11-8 overall.
Sofish deflected a loose ball into the back of the net in the 68th minute to tally the difference maker.
Cassidy Dawson and the stingy Berks defense recorded their fourth shutout of the season. Dawson made five of her seven saves in the first half to keep the match scoreless heading into the intermission.
Berks was outshot 17-15 in the contest and the teams were even at 3-3 in corner kicks.
Berks will await the outcome of Saturday afternoon's SUNYIT-Keuka contest for playing seeding. A SUNYIT win will earn Berks the No. 2 seed in the playoffs and a first-round bye. Should Keuka win, the Nittany Lions will host a play-in game as the No. 3 seed.
